Chiquita & Perlita a few days before being rescued. Kim Beddall adopted both of them. They look great now.

BACKGROUND

The Dominican people are normally gentle and loving people. However when it comes to animals, it can be a very different matter.

Horses are still used for agriculture and transportation. Often they are overloaded with unsuitable saddles resulting in hideous wounds. In short, they are often worked to death.

Once the parasites take hold of a weak horse, he has not long to live.

WHAT WE TRY TO DO

Karin grazes her horses in common lands around Las Galeras and too often sees horses that will certainly die if they receive no attention.

Karin gives them medicine for their wounds, cleans them of parasites and feeds them until they are strong enough to have some hope to survive on their own.

to weak to stand up

In spite of all the efforts this horse was sadly too far gone by the time Karin discovered him and he did not survive.

PLACEMENT WITH LOCAL FAMILIES

Karin knows the Dominican people in her area that will treat horses properly. When possible she will give the horse to the family and keep a close eye to ensure the horse is well tended.

But there are many more horses in need then there are good re homing opportunities.

HOW BIG IS THE PROBLEM

Karin does what she can for the horses. But the need is overwhelming and she is seeking assistance in order to continue the effort.

All but three of Karin's horses are rescue horses. She now cares for 13 horses and her capacity to support anymore horses has been reached.

Rosa

Unbelievable, Rosa survived and was re homed.

WITH YOUR HELP SHE CAN GIVE A FEW MORE HORSES A GOOD AND SAFE HOME

IT IS NOT ONLY A DOMINICAN ISSUE

Abandon animals are always an issue in the DR. For poor uneducated Dominicans, one can come to understand it.
What is less forgivable is the foreigners who come to the DR for part of the year and abandon their cats and dogs when they go home.
Those animals can't survive on their own, bring dog and cat food and help homeless street dogs to survive.

FEED A DOG OR A CAT AT A LOCAL FAMILY

There are many family's with dogs and cats but no money to feed them, if you help us to buy dog and cat food you will help these animals to have a better live.

In the pictures: Puppy "Zipke" found a home in Haiti with a french couple.

-"Perla negra" went to Belgium with a young couple and is a beautiful dog now.

-"Tosca" was adopted in Las Galeras.

-Horse (had no name yet) sadly died.

-"Hummeltje" died, we found her too late.

- "Michke" has become a member of La Hacienda cat family.

- In 2010 "Mambé" the donkey was found with his eye hanging outside and rotting away. He was nursed back to health and was later adopted.
